FAQ

Questions I get asked, answered honestly

If you're thinking about working with me, you probably have questions. Good. I'd rather you ask them here than wonder about them in silence. If something isn't covered below, tell me about your business and I'll answer it directly.

01Pricing

Why do you display your pricing publicly?
Because you deserve to know what something costs before you invest time in a conversation about it. Too many agencies hide their pricing to get you on a call before revealing the number. I think that's a waste of your time and mine. If my pricing isn't the right fit for your business right now, you'll know immediately, and if it is, we can skip straight to the good stuff.
Why is there a startup fee?

The startup fee covers the work that happens before your site ever goes live, the discovery session, the strategy, the design, a portion of the build, the SEO setup, and the launch. It reflects the actual time and effort that goes into creating something from scratch. The monthly fee is what keeps everything running, growing, and improving after launch.

Why do I pay the same amount every month even after my site is built?

Because the website is only the beginning. Your monthly investment covers everything that happens after launch, ongoing SEO, Google Business Profile management, monthly reporting, site maintenance, security, backups, and a partner who stays actively invested in your results. SEO in particular is not a one-time setup. It's consistent, compounding work that builds visibility over time. And if we work together for years and your site needs a refresh, that's included too. You're not only paying for a website. You're paying for everything that keeps your business growing online.

Why is your price higher than a freelancer on Fiverr or a website builder like Wix?

That's a fair question and I'd rather answer it honestly than dodge it. Most of the clients I work with today already tried the cheaper option first. They built a Wix site that generated zero traffic and zero leads. Or they hired a cheap agency that took their money, delivered something mediocre, and disappeared. The cost of doing it wrong isn't just the money you spent, it's the months or years of lost visibility, missed leads, and frustrated feelings. What I offer isn't just a website. It's a strategy, an ongoing SEO partner, and someone who treats your business like it matters. That costs more than a template. It also delivers more.

Do you offer one-time website builds?

It's not something I advertise, because I genuinely believe that a website without an ongoing SEO strategy is a missed opportunity. A site that no one can find doesn't do much for your business. That said, if your situation is unique, feel free to reach out and tell me about your business. I'm happy to have an honest conversation about what makes sense for you. All that said, I am open to one-off builds occasionally.

02Process

How long does it take to get my website live?

Typically 4 to 6 weeks from the time we kick off. The honest caveat is that the timeline depends largely on how quickly you can get me what I need, images, questionnaire responses, and any existing branding. Clients who come prepared and respond promptly tend to launch on the faster end. I'll walk you through exactly what's needed from the start so there are no surprises.

What do you need from me to get started?

Completed questionnaires, any existing branding you have, and photos if you have them. If you're migrating from an existing site, I'll handle the technical side, but you will need to know the login credentials to your domain hosting, site hosting, business email hosting, etc.

If you're starting from scratch, I'll guide you through what to gather. The more context you give me about your business, your customers, and your goals, the better the end result will be.

Do I have to write my own copy?

No, and this is one of the things clients are most relieved to hear! If you're starting from scratch, I craft the copy based on what I learn from your questionnaire and our conversations. For industries I've worked in extensively, I can write everything without much input from you at all. If you have an existing website, I use what's already there as a starting point and make it better.

What if I don't have any branding?

Not a problem. I can help you establish simple foundational branding at no additional charge, a font pairing and a color palette that reflects your business and sets a consistent tone across your site. What I don't do is design logos. If you need a logo, I'll point you toward someone who does that work well. Having a professionally designed logo before we build makes a real difference in the final result.

Do you design logos?

I have designed logos for some clients, but it's not my specialty and I don't offer it as a service. A professionally designed logo is worth the investment, and I'm happy to point you in the right direction if you need one.

After the site is live, can I make my own edits?

Technically yes, your site is built on WordPress and you can have full access to it. Will I show you how? Absolutely. Do I recommend it? Honestly, not really. WordPress is powerful but it's easy to accidentally break something if you're not familiar with how it works. I'd much rather handle updates for you so nothing goes sideways. That's part of what your monthly plan covers. If you ever need a change, just let me know and I'll take care of it.

Will I get to review the site before it goes live?

Yes, always. I develop a homepage draft for your review first. Once that's approved I build out the remaining pages. You review the full site before anything goes live. Nothing launches without your sign-off.

03SEO

How long does it take SEO to work?

The honest answer is that it depends on a number of things: your market, your competition, and the current state of your online presence. What I can tell you is that every client I've worked with has reached page one for their primary keyword within 90 days. Some see movement in weeks. Others take a little longer. SEO is not a switch you flip. It's a strategy you build, and the results compound over time. The businesses that commit to it consistently are the ones that end up owning their local market online.

Can you guarantee first page rankings?

No, and anyone who tells you they can is not being honest with you. Google's algorithm is complex, constantly evolving, and ultimately outside anyone's control. What I can tell you is that every client I've worked with has reached page one for their primary keyword within 90 days, and I've never lost a client. I can't promise a specific ranking. I can promise consistent, honest work, full transparency about what's happening and why, and a track record that speaks for itself.

What happens to my rankings if I stop doing SEO?

They will almost certainly decline over time. SEO isn't a one-time fix that holds forever. Your competitors are continuing to optimize, Google continues to update its algorithm, and your site's authority relative to others in your market will erode without ongoing work. I've seen this happen firsthand with clients who paused their SEO efforts, rankings that took months to build can slip significantly within a matter of months. It's one of the main reasons I structure my plans as ongoing partnerships rather than one-time projects.

What is a Google Business Profile and why does it matter?

Your Google Business Profile is the listing that appears when someone searches for your business or a business like yours on Google. It shows your name, address, phone number, hours, photos, reviews, and more. It's also what determines whether you appear in the map pack, the three local businesses Google highlights at the top of local search results. For a service-based local business, your GBP is equally as important as your website for local visibility. It's one of the first things I set up and optimize for every client.

What is local SEO and how is it different from regular SEO?

Regular SEO focuses on ranking a website for broad search terms regardless of location. Local SEO focuses specifically on ranking your business for searches in your geographic market, a.k.a. the customers closest to you who are most likely to hire you. For a service-based local business, local SEO is almost always the more valuable investment. It targets the exact people in your area who are actively searching for what you offer, and it positions you to show up in both regular search results and the Google map pack.

04Working with me

Do I own my website?

Yes, always. Your website belongs to you from the moment it's built. If we ever part ways, I'll provide you with your hosting credentials and all relevant account access. You'll have 30 days to migrate or update billing before anything goes offline. No holding your site hostage, no surprises.

Is there a contract?

Yes. All plans begin with a 12-month agreement. I ask for this commitment because SEO takes time to compound, and 12 months gives us the runway to build something that actually lasts. After the first year your plan moves to a simple month-to-month arrangement with 30 days written notice to cancel.

What if I need to cancel before the 12 months are up?

If you need to exit early you'll be responsible for the remaining months on your agreement. I'm upfront about this because I want you to go into it with clear expectations. The 12-month commitment protects both of us, it gives your SEO the time it needs and gives me the stability to invest fully in your business from day one.

Do you work with businesses outside of Tennessee?

Yes. Most of my clients are based in Tennessee and I have deep roots in this market, but I work with businesses in other states as well. What matters more than location is whether you're a service-based business that's serious about growing your online presence.

What types of businesses do you work with?

I specialize in established, service-based local businesses: home services, specialty trades, professional services, outdoor industries, health and wellness, and niche local businesses. The common thread is a business owner who is excellent at what they do but frustrated, overwhelmed, or stuck when it comes to their online presence. I don't work with e-commerce businesses.

How do I know if we are a good fit?

If you're serious about investing in your online presence for the long haul, value honesty and clear communication over hype and jargon, and want a partner who will genuinely learn your business and stay invested in your results, we're probably a good fit.

If you're looking for the cheapest option or a quick fix with no ongoing strategy behind it, I'm probably not the right choice, and I'd rather tell you that upfront than waste both our time.

Still have questions that aren't covered here?

Tell me about your business and ask away. I'll give you an honest answer.
